Our Firm’s History​

The Law Offices of Neil Moldovan, P.C., began as a solo practice in 1994.  In 1996, our firm expanded, hiring additional staff and moving into a larger office.  Since then, our firm has grown to 5 attorneys and a support staff of 15.  In 2015, we moved to our current offices in Garden City, almost doubling our size.

Throughout the life of our firm, we have consistently held to our core beliefs— providing our clients with the individual service that they deserve in order to ensure that each and every one is justly compensated for his or her injuries.

Neil Moldovan

Neil graduated from Benjamin N. Cardozo in 1982 and has spent his entire career fighting for the legal rights of his clients.

After graduation from law school, he practiced workers compensation, social security disability and no fault law. Shortly after that, he added personal injury cases to his list of practice areas and began representing clients in jury trials in Nassau, Suffolk, Kings, New York, and Queens counties and in the Southern and Eastern Federal District courts. He has also represented clients on appeal in the First, Second and Third Departments in New York. In the early 1980s, Neil’s practice involved defense work, mainly in personal injury and insurance litigation. In 1986 he switched over to plaintiff side work.
In 1994, he opened his own practice representing clients in on-the-job accidents, and in personal injury cases. Since then his firm has added product liability cases under the Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA), Social Security disability cases, and medical malpractice. Has successfully represented thousands of people and has grown is practice to manage a five attorney firm with staff members who devote time to the firm’s clients with the same energy and enthusiasm.

Mr. Moldovan has devoted his entire career to fighting passionately for his clients. Helping injured people has been his career focus and no case is too big or too small for him to handle.

Tod Groman

Tod Groman is a native Brooklynite and attended Brooklyn College before starting St. John’s University Law School, where he graduated as a member of its Law Review.

He began his profession with the Kings County D. A. ‘s office as an Assistant District Attorney where he worked in its elite Homicide Bureau. Tod commenced his practice in personal injury law in 1979, and for over 35 years, has handled various cases including accidents and injuries involving motor vehicle collisions, trips/slips and falls, construction site injuries, premises liability, municipality incidents, and work-related injuries.
As one of the firm’s senior trial lawyers, he is an accomplished litigation attorney, working in pre-trial discovery, depositions, motions, and trials, with strong analytical management, evaluation, and settlement negotiating skills.

Kathleen Doherty

Kathleen Mary Doherty joined the Law Offices of Neil Moldovan, P.C. in January of 2020 where she advocates for the interests of personal injury clients and injured workers.  Ms. Doherty was admitted to the New York State Bar in April of 1995, and to the United States District Court for the Eastern and Southern Districts in 1995 and 1997 respectively. Prior to joining the Law Offices of Neil Moldovan, P.C., Ms. Doherty practiced civil defense litigation for more than two decades.

Ms. Doherty was born and raised in New York where she became a seasoned equine professional working in the thoroughbred racing industry.  She then went on to attend the State University of New York at Stony Brook where in 1988 she graduated Magna Cum Laude.  She then achieved a Masters of Arts Degree in Experimental Behavioral Analysis from Adelphi University in 1991.  In 1994 she attended the Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center at Touro College where she earned a Juris Doctor Degree.

Pro bono causes have included co-founding the nonprofit organization, The Max’s Kansas City Project, and working on the eleventh-hour litigation against the Arch-Diocese of New York that stopped the demolition of the historic St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church that was built from the timbers of Irish Shipwrights circa 1848.

Scott Ackerman

Scott Ackerman graduated Emory University in 1987 and Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1990 with distinction for completing his law degree in two years. While at Thomas M. Cooley, Mr. Ackerman was the assistant director for the school’s 60 Plus program where he represented elderly clients under the supervision of licensed attorneys in Michigan. Mr. Ackerman joined the Law Offices of Neil Moldovan P.C. in 2018.

Mr. Ackerman has focused his law career for the last 28 years in the fields of personal injury law, workers compensation law, no fault law and appellate practice. Mr. Ackerman is a trial attorney and has successfully represented his clients, negotiating settlements of millions of dollars in personal injury cases, including motor vehicle accidents, premises accidents, construction accidents and slip and fall accidents. Mr. Ackerman is admitted to practice law in the Courts of the State of New York and the Federal Courts for the Southern and Eastern District of New York.

James Marino

James M. Marino is a seasoned litigator with over 30 years of experience as a member of the plaintiffs’ personal injury bar. After graduating from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and Brooklyn Law School, Mr. Marino served as a Judge Advocate in the United States Marine Corps before entering private practice. He began his civilian practice as an attorney in the insurance defense bar for several years. Thereafter, he has represented plaintiffs as a principal in his own AV rated firm and as trial and associate counsel for major New York City plaintiffs’ personal injury firms. His experience has given him a unique perspective in anticipating the tactics and strategies of defendants.  

Mr. Marino has achieved significant recoveries on behalf of his clients, by settlement and after jury trials, bench trials, arbitrations and mediations in diverse personal injury matters, including motor vehicle accidents, premises liability, products liability, actions against municipalities, false arrest cases and medical, podiatric and dental malpractice matters. His practice experience encompasses the State and Federal Courts in the five boroughs of New York City and the Greater New York City Metropolitan Area. (edited)
